Municipal basketball court in Piraeus

Located in the heart of Kaminia, this municipal basketball court was designated for development within an “urban void”—a term used by urban planners
to describe underutilized open spaces within densely built environments. Surrounded by tall apartment buildings and a municipal cultural center, this site
challenged us to approach architectural placement thoughtfully, creating a balance between built structures and open spaces.

Our design establishes a cohesive network of plazas and inviting pedestrian pathways to enhance community interaction and accessibility. The project presented a unique challenge, as the building program required an intricate balance of supplemental uses beyond basketball. Additionally, we developed an on-site municipal daycare center (KDAP), thoughtfully designed to meet accessibility standards for individuals with mobility challenges.
